2024 Regional & National Competition, Seminars, Tests & Other Activities Information

Tuesday April 2:

8 am to 4 pm: Regional and National Agility Trials to be held concurrently, judged by RonMcClelland. All standard, Time 2 Beat, FAST, and Jumpers with Weaves classes are offered. This event counts towards Triathlon and is chaired by Deb Pearthree (gabbiecdx@aol.com) Erica Behnke is the trial secretary.

Box breakfast and lunch will be available.

Wednesday April 3:

8 am to 4 pm: Regional and National Scent Work Trials to be held concurrently, judged by Edith Markoff and Debbie Thurston. Novice through Master is offered in all 5 elements. High in Trial and High Combined will be offered at each level. This event counts towards Triathlon and is chaired by Lora Megli (lmegli@yahoo.com). Cheryl Cazier (www.showsbycheryl.com) is the trial secretary.

Box breakfast and lunch will be available.

6 to 7:30 pm: Welcome Party! Join us for a taco bar, chips, and salsa. Cash bar.

Thursday April 4:

8 am to 12 noon: Regional Obedience and Rally Trials judged by Bill Parill. All regular titling obedience classes are offered, as well as Beginner Novice, Graduate Novice, and veteran. Both rally and obedience count towards Triathlon. Cheryl Champion (cherchamp17@gmail.com) is obedience and rally chair. Cheryl Cazier is the show secretary.

Box breakfast will be available, as well as a soup and salad bar for lunch.

12 noon to 4 pm: Regional Specialty Show. Cheryl Cazier is the show secretary. Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes judged by Zack Helmer. 4-6 puppy, Junior Showmanship and regular classes judged by David Miller

4 to 5 pm: Annual Meeting

6 to 10 pm: Top 20. Marina Rose (bis4pbgvs@yahoo.com) is the chair. MENU: Eggplant rollatini, herb roasted chicken, Caesar salad, red potatoes, green beans, rolls, dessert, coffee, iced tea, hot tea, and water. Cash bar. One meal is included with each entry.

Friday April 5:

8 to 9:30 am: Awards Breakfast. Teri King (k9goldens@msn.com) is the chair. Applications must be received between January 1 and February 15, 2024.

10 am to 2 pm: National Obedience and Rally Trials, judged by Bill Parill. All regular titling obedience classes are offered, as well as Beginner Novice, Graduate Novice, and veteran. Both rally and obedience count towards Triathlon.

12 to 2 pm: Eye Clinic with Dr. William Greentree DVM, Diplomate, College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists from Bexley, Ohio.

Box lunch is available.

2 pm to 4 pm: Breeder’s Roundtable. Betty Barth, Nick Frost, Janice Hayes, and Megan Esherick will share thoughts on establishing a line of dogs. Submit questions to Megan Esherick (clancypbgv@gmail.com). Puppy Culture LLC has donated an exciting gift package for one lucky attendee of this seminar. We hope to livestream this event through Zoom.

4 pm to 5 pm: Mentor Seminar will feature Tips and Tools for those serious about becoming a PBGVCA Approved Mentor. Contact Kitty Steidel (ksteidel@aol.com) for more information.

4 pm to 6 pm: Canine Good Citizen and AKC Trick Dog Testing, Gwen Weisgarber evaluator. All levels of CGC and Trick Dog are offered. Please bring your own trick dog props if possible. $15 per CGC test, $10 per trick dog test. A dog may count one of these events toward Beginner Triathlon. If time allows, these events may be open to other breeds.

6 pm to 8 pm: Health Speaker and BBQ Dinner,  Dr. Marty Greer, DVM, JD, will speak on canine reproduction and pediatrics. She is the author of the book “Canine Reproduction and Neonatology – for Veterinarians, Veterinary Staff, and Breeders’’.  In 2023, Dr Greer was recipient of the Veterinarian of the Year award from Westminster Kennel Club. Come to her seminar with your health questions on breeding, kennel management, deworming, vaccination, diseases or any other pet health concern.

This event is sponsored by the PBGV Health and Rescue Foundation. We hope to livestream this event through Zoom. Cash bar.

Saturday April 6:

8 am to 4 pm: Regional All Breed FAST CAT events to be held outdoors with a fully fenced course. PBGVs will have an early opening date, 2/13/24, to ensure that we have the opportunity to enter. The events will be held concurrently and we will do our best to accommodate conflicts with breed judging. The lure operator and test secretary is Lure Dude, LLC (www.tallyhoevents.com) FAST CAT Chair is Lora Megli (lmegli@yahoo.com). This event will count toward Beginner Triathlon.

Box breakfast is available.

8 am to 9:30 am: Judges’ Education, $20, limited to prospective judges. Approved judges may audit for no charge. Contact Kitty Steidel (ksteidel@aol.com) for more information. Members who are interested in this topic should consider attending the Mentor Seminar on Friday.

9:30 am to 1:30 pm: National Specialty Show. Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes judged by Anouk Huikeshoven. A soup and salad bar will be available during the lunch break. 4-6 Puppy, Junior Showmanship and regular classes judged by Sulie Greendale- Paveza.

6 to 9 pm: Banquet and Auction Janice Hayes (jhyes@aol.com) is auction chair. Donated items are greatly appreciated. An Italian buffet will be served. Cash Bar.

Sunday April 7

8 am to 4 pm: National All Breed FAST CAT events to be held outdoors with a fully fenced course. PBGVs will have an early opening date, 2/13/24, to ensure that we have the opportunity to enter. The events will be held concurrently. It may be possible to run early in the day if you also want to do hunt practice. The lure operator and test secretary is Lure Dude, LLC (www.tallyhoevents.com) FAST CAT Chair is Lora Megli (lmegli@yahoo.com)This event will count towards Beginner Triathlon.

10 am: PBGVCA National Hunt Practice. Hunt Judges
Try to get your FastCAT runs done first thing on Sunday morning so you can travel to Belmont Jefferson Beagle Club in St. Clairsville, Ohio. The field will open at 10 am for practice and RV parking. We will offer a variety of hunt education activities in the afternoon including the Novice/Puppy Learning experience, various short seminars on training and handling as well as additional programming. There will be a dinner at the field on Sunday night (food tor the event catered by Terry and Dee Allin). Mary Fluke, (drowsymary@gmail.com) is Hunt Chair.

Make your plans to finish your 2024 PBGVCA Regional/National Specialty week at the 2024 PBGVCA National Hunt Test, to be held Sunday April 7 through Tuesday April 9, 2024 at the Belmont Jefferson Beagle Club in St. Clairsville, OH. Hunt entries will open on February 13 along with the rest of the Specialty week events. The hunt is very likely to fill quickly, so make sure to read the premium list carefully and be ready to send in your entries on opening day. Entries open Tuesday, February 13, 2024 and close Thursday, March 14, 2024.

We’re glad to be back at the Belmont Jefferson Beagle Club, an excellent facility with 3 pens, observation towers, and excellent clubhouse facilities. Our event will be catered by club members Terry and Dee Allin (Whiskey Jacks BBQ) so bring your appetite. Sunday Open Run Day will feature seminars on hunting including tips on training. The Monday Night Hunt Banquet is always a fun party with good food, good fellowship, and the exciting Hunt Test Raffle and Auction.

Remember that the 2024 National Hunt Tests count towards the Triathlon.
