Summer 2017  Saber Tails 69

Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen Club of America

Meet Our Members

W

ith each quarterly edition of Saber Tails, we want to introduce members of our club.  We have prepared a set of ques-

tions for each person to answer to help members get to know other PBGV Lovers.  Our membership is comprised of

such unique people from all over the world with a wide variety of experiences.  But we all have one thing in common - We

LOVE Our PBGVs.  This month, meet Mark and Mitzi Toth.

Mark and Mitzi Toth

Tell us about yourself…

We live in Savannah, Georgia with our PBGV Murphy.  Mark

is the Director of Strategy at Union Mission in Savannah,

and Mitzi is a retired banker who now enjoys volunteer
work.  We enjoy travel, golfing, hiking, and scuba diving.

When did we get our first PBGV?

We got Murphy from Tiffany and Bill Cannon on Decem-

ber 12, 2012, the day he turned nine weeks old.  He is our

first PBGV, and after living with him for the last four and a
half years, we would never have another breed.

How did you find out about PBGVs?

I first saw a PBGV in a Westminster dog show in 2007 and

immediately told Mark that was the breed I wanted when

the time was right for us to have a dog.

What other Pets have you had?

I grew up with dogs, mainly terriers, and when I lost my

last dog Napoleon (a Cock-a-poo) in 1992, I adopted a cat

from the shelter since having a cat worked better with my

lifestyle at that time in my life.  I’ve had cats since that time.  Our cat, Oliver, was 12 years old when we decided to find

a dog and I was very focused on bringing a breed into our household where I would know the temperament and size.

I found Murphy when he was only one week old, and after speaking at length with Tiffany about PBGVs I knew I had

found our boy!  Murphy is now four and a half years old, and Oliver is 17.  Oliver was a little jealous at first and not overly

receptive to having Murphy live with us, but Murphy won him over and they became great buds not too long after I

brought Murphy home.  Murphy learned quickly that he was not to chase or bark at Oliver and now they play together

and even take naps together on occasions.

How long have you been involved in the club?

I joined the club in 2016 and am so happy I did.  I thoroughly enjoy receiving Saber Tails and have even seen Murphy as
a puppy in a Saber Tails volume which was very exciting to me!

What activities do you enjoy with your PBGV?

Murphy’s favorite thing is riding in our golf cart, so we do that every day.  Everyone on our island knows Murphy and

thinks he is the cutest dog they have ever seen (I agree!).  We enjoy our long walks in both the morning and evening, and
