Summer 2017 Saber Tails 21
Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen Club of America
It was both a privilege and an honor to judge sweepstakes
for our recent National Specialty held in Charlotte, North
Carolina.
The PBGVs in the Puppy sweepstakes classes, in general,
exhibited good quality. Most pups were lovely in type and
well balanced with their proportions correct as indicated
in our breed standard. The majority of the puppies had
strong top lines and correct side gait. Front and going
away actions were sound, but some puppies converged
their front movement better than others. The youngsters
had lovely expression and head type. I’m sure many of
the puppies I saw will become future stars.
Our seniors were amazing. They varied in type, but they
were the producers of many of the lovely youngsters in
the puppy sweepstakes classes. Clearly, it is our breeders
and mentors that are becoming educated on which
pups to successfully go forward with in their breeding
programs.
To all who showed their sweeps PBGVs, thank you for
allowing me to meet your puppies and veterans.
Continue to read and understand our breed standard.
Our breed’s future is in your hands. You are doing a fine
job.

Thank you so much to the PBGV Club for inviting me to
judge the 2017 National Specialty. It was marvelous to
have so many lovely dogs to judge. I feel that as a whole
the breed is in good shape. Movement was good as well
as toplines, tail sets and carriage. Type is good which in-
cludes proportion and attitude.
There were only a few whose coats could have been
better. Also, surprisingly I found several bite problems.
Please remember that correcting bites in a breeding
program is very difficult. There were only a few that had
Grand heads.
Overall the entry deserved to be at the National which
made my judging a delight. I must also comment on all
of the nice exhibitors. What a lovely group of people you
have.
