Regional Specialty -
Judge’s Critique
Judge Ellen Frost
It was a high honor to be invited to judge the 2017 PBGV-
CA Regional Specialty. I thought the quality was unusu-
ally strong. Very few of the entries had any ‘Grand’ charac-
teristics. Lovely heads, supple ears with a lovely shape. If I
were finding fault, it would be the many exhibits that had
eyebrows trimmed in like Schnauzers.
It was wonderful to see the vast majority had extraordi-
nary temperaments. PBGVs never fail to bring a smile to
my face and this group of extroverts did not disappoint.
The entry had much depth and it was not a task to find
consistency. The young dog I gave the breed to was a de-
light to discover. He is incredibly well balanced, he has
a lovely head, beautiful proportion and carried himself
beautifully. He was presented in sublime condition. Ev-
erything is in balance including his grooming.
Congratulations to the show committee for holding a
great event. Top honors must go to the breeders. PBGVs
have come a long way. Kudos for the hard work, heart-
ache and diligence - you all have come a long way since
the breed’s initial recognition.
Thank you for the honor, it was great fun.
