Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen Club of America

won his first Reserve CC from the Puppy Class under Per Knudsen and his third and 

crowning CC and BOB under Renaud Buche, President of the French Griffon Vendeen 

Club.  Best Veteran under Sandy MacKenzie at the Charlotte Nationals and Best Vet-

eran and BIS at the Orlando Nationals under Jeff Pepper at ten years of age.  Dehra 

dogs last well – Salto has won BOB at Crufts at 12 years of age and Eng/Am Ch Anoroc 

Eire at Dehra had also won BIS at the Nationals from the Veteran class!

owever it is as a stud dog that Urio has really left his mark – on both sides of the 

Atlantic. Urio has carried on where his father Salto left off. He sired the UK’s first 

PBGV Championship BIS winner, Eng/Am Ch Dehra Xato and is behind many of today’s 

top winning PBGVs in the UK, including the famous Crufts BIS winner Ch Soletrader 

Peek A Boo.  Here in the US, Urio has sired around 45 champions--a record surpassed 

by his grandson Ch Dehra Vidal (47 champions) through his best known off spring, Ch 

Pepperhill Dehra Charmaine.

I 

am sometimes asked if I wish I had collected Urio’s semen and, although it would have been intriguing to have had 

the opportunity to breed him to current bitches, I guess I am old fashioned in believing that a dog is of his time. I am 

proud of Urio’s accomplishments but believe we move forwards. This last two years it has been fun showing his great 

great grandson to the #1 spot.  Who knows what is down the line.
