omeofyoumayrememberSheldon,whosestoryappearedin
apastissueofSaberTails.InlateJulyof2013,heandafew
otherPBGVscameintorescuewhentheirbreederpassed

away.AnumberofPBGVCAmembersandbreederscameto-
gethertotransport,fosterorhelpplacethePBGVs.Anotherone
ofthesePBGVswasAngie.

AndreaandJimSeubertlosttheirbelovedBassetHound,

Roxanne,tocancerinthespringof2013andwereheartbroken.
TheirotherthreeBassets,Dit,OliviaandAl,werealsomissing
theirsister,especiallyDit,whowasverybondedtoher.Andrea
andJimstartedtalkingaboutanotherdog—shouldtheygeta
seniorBasset,ayoungBassetorwhat?Andreathoughtshemight
likeasmallerdog,andJimrememberedthattheyhadmeta
PBGVwhotheyreallyliked.Afterresearchingthebreed,they
filledoutarescueapplicationonthePBGVCAwebsiteandsettledin
towait.Withinafewweeks,theylearnedthata3-year-oldfemalewas
available,andarrangementsweremadeforadoption.

Andrearemembers:“Weweresurprisedtohearaboutanavailable

dogsoquickly,thinkingthatsofewPBGVscameupforadoption,and
werethrilledtogetthenews!RescuemadesurethatAngiewashealthy
andspayedbeforewepickedherup.JimandIpiledtheBassetsinthe
carforthe12-hourdrivetomeetAngie,andeveryoneclickedright
away.Angieisalwayshappy,butlikeeveryoneelse,doesnotliketo
betold“No,”andgoesandsulksinthebedroom.Heronlybehavioral
issueisthatshehasseparationanxiety;we’restillworkingonthat.My
husbandJimisherfavorite—shelookslikeshelostherbestfriendwhen
heleavesforwork.HerfavoritetoyisactuallyAltheBasset.Theyplay
togetherlikecrazy.Sheistryingtoteachhimthatsheisalphaoverhim.
It’sfunnytowatch.Alalsoletsherchewonhisears.”

secondday,shemusthavehadafewcobwebsinherbrain.Wehope

Angiedecidedthatshewouldliketochimeinandtellusabitabouther

newlifewithAndreaandJimandthethreeBassets:“Theridetomynew
homewasalittlelong,butwestoppedalotforbreaks.Wegethome…
fencedinyard!Timetohavefun!Firstthingsfirst,IdecidedIcouldsleep
whereverIwantedandMomandDadsaid,“Okay!”Wehavethesecutelittle
stepsthatgouptothebedsoIdon’thavetojump(they’reforthoseshort-
leggedBassets).Idojumpdownthough.TheBassetsgorightbackdown
thoselittlesteps.It’ssofunnytosee!WhenIfeelliketalking,Ihavethislittle,
ittybittyhigh-pitchedvoice.MomlaughsandsaysthatitsoundslikeI’mreallytryingtotalk.Ialsohavethisreallydeep
howl.Ihavenoideawherethatcomesfrom,andIonlyusethattogreetDad.IalsohowlwiththeBassets!Ontoplaytime—
Ditismyprotector,plainandsimple.Atfirsthewouldn’tlettheotherfurkidsplaywithme;hestoodbetweenusandactu-
allygrowledatthem.Hestilldoesitonceinawhile.Buthey,weallgetalong.Ihaveabitofaproblemwithbeingoutside
whenit’swet.Itrytoliftmypawsreallyhighsonottogetthemwet.IfIcanhelpitIwon’tgoout.ButIdon’tmindsnow.
Momcallsmeherprimadonna.Well,it’sbeengreatchattin’withyou.Momsaysshewouldliketotalknow.”
