RESEARCH
In 2015 the Foundation donated $2,500 to Dr. Ned Patterson’s Grant spon-
sored by the AKC Canine Health Foundation. His research is focused on look-
ing for new genetic markers to Identify epilepsy.
A second grant was supported with a $1000 donation focusing on structural
defects/DNA analysis associated with closed angle glaucoma.
A third grant focusing on the development of a vaccine to prevent canine
periodontal disease with a $1000 donation.
All of these grants are sponsored by the AKC Canine Health Foundation.
EDUCATION
One of the goals that the Foundation is charged with is to provide health
education to the members. Who could envision that one of the most effec-
tive ways of doing that would be through the use of Social Media namely
Facebook. Our site is administrated by Laura Liscum, who posts valuable
information out to the members about research as it is published, health
information and also news about rescue. Our FB page gets quite a bit of
activity from a very varied audience and lots of complimentary feedback.
Over the past year Orangeman has made several cameo appearances and
has developed quite a following on Facebook.
RESCUE
While the research and educational goals of our mission are incredibly
important, nothing touches us more than the rescue obligations of PBGVCA
and The Foundation. The Rescue Committee is part of PBGVCA and does all
the difficult work in dealing with rescue situations. The Foundation assists
the committee by paying the approved expenses for the rescue. We are
proud to say that so far we have been able to fund these expenses without
exception.
FUNDRAISING
Fundraising is the primary means by which the Foundation is able to sup-
port research, education and rescue efforts. We are very fortunate that
PBGV owners are dedicated to their hounds and donate to the Foundation
to honor them. We are committed to exploring a variety of alternative ways
that members can contribute. Our members are incredibly loyal to the
breed and as generous as they can be, and for that we are eternally grateful.
The challenge is always to think creatively to develop opportunities for
members to be able to donate in ways that do not involve out of pocket
money. These opportunities include designating the Foundation in be-
quests, annuities, and matched donation programs. We are also associated
