TheFoundationhelditsannualmeetingatthenational
specialtyinTucson,Ariz.Duringthemeeting,officersand
directorswereelected;the2015-2016classislistedabove.
WewelcomeSheridanWeinsteinandKateRowinskitothe
board.Eachoftheseindividualshaveattendedtheboard
meetingsthispastyearasaguestandhavedrawnupon
theirexperiencetocontributesuggestionsthathavebeen
muchappreciated.

TheannualfinancialauditwasconductedbyTiffany

Cannon,SandyBustin,CarolDoergeandSusannahCooper;
allwasfoundtobeinorder.

TheFoundationwasabletoprovidepartialfundingfor

theeye-clinicexamsandtotalfundingfortheDNAblood
drawthatissenttoOFA.WealsofundedhealthspeakerDr.
DanikaBannasch,whosetopicwasgenetics.Sheincorporated
thefindingofthePOAGmarkeranditsimportanceintoher
presentation,andwasavailableforquestions.Pleaseseethe
articleonpage64aboutherpresentation.

PBGVCAandtheFoundationdonatedfundstoTucson’s

SaveaLifeFoundationtoassistwiththeireffortstopurchase
oxygenkitstoinsurethateachfirestationintheTucson
areahastheequipmenttotreatcatsanddogsinneedof
resuscitation.AndyTrujillograciouslyacceptedthe

donation,statingthatitwillmakeadifferenceintheability
tosavepetslives.Seepage10forthestory.

Probablythemostimportantdecisionmadebythe

Foundationwasaplantoprovideareimbursementfor
thosewhotesttheirdogsforprimaryopenangleglaucoma
(POAG).ThediscoveryofthePOAGmarkeristhemost
significantscreeningtoolforPBGVsthatwehaveavailable
thatcancontributetothehealthofthebreed.First,itis
importanttotest,andsecond,itisimportanttohavethe
informationavailableinanopendatabase.

TheFoundationwillreimburseanyPBGVowner$40for

eachdogtestedthathasresultssubmittedtoOFAtobe
includedintheopendatabase.ThisisopentoallPBGV
ownersinNorthAmerica,itisnotrestrictedtoPBGVCA
membersonly.Thisisadiseasethatwecanactuallydo
somethingabout,anditisourresponsibilitytoencourage
testing.Wehavethepotentialtoputanendtothepainand
sufferingthataccompaniesPOAG.
