theClarkCountyBeagleClubinNewCarlisle,Ohio.Thefact

thatthehunteveroccurredistheintersectionofmanyseemingly
unrelatedeventsthathappenedovermanyyears.

Inthe1980s,myfather,Bob,wasfillingupataBPstation.The

gentlemanattheoppositepump,MartyMay,wasalsofillinguphis
truckandhappenedtohaveafewcratesinthebackcontaining
beagles.Myfatherwasabeagler.Theystruckupaconversationand
afriendshipbeforethepumpsshutoff.Forthenextmanyyears,
BobandMartyrantheirbeaglesattheClarkCountyBeagleClub
duringtheweekandtraveledtohunttrialsinKentucky,Indiana
andthroughoutOhioaswellashostingtrialsattheirhomeclub
onweekends.

About30yearslater,MichaelandmeandourfourPBGVs—

Stanley,Ruby,QuincyandJezadeleLouise—wanderedoverto
Upland,Ind.,fortheirfirsthunttrial.Arrivingby10a.m.,thedogs
gottotaketothefieldforanhourofpractice.Ofcourse,beingthe
nervoustypes,RobertandMichaelspentseveralhundreddollarson
trackingdevicesforthecollars,convincedthatwithoutthetracking
devices,thepupswouldtakeoffandneverreturn.

Acompletewasteofmoney!Asitturnsout,PBGVscheckin

every10to15minutesduringahunt,andafteranhourofrunning,
theycannotwaittogobacktotheircratestorest.

Everyonewashooked.Andforthenextcouplesofyears,they

traveledtoWisconsin,Pennsylvania,SouthCarolina,North
CarolinaandbacktoIndianaacoupleoftimes.

JoiningonthatfirsthuntwereKevinMacDonaldandBevSeffrin

andtheirthreePBGVs:Jester,Marcel(namedSheldonwhenhewas
born)andHolly.MarcelandHollyarelittermatesofQuincyand
JezadeleLouise.KevinandBevnowwerealsohooked.
