Pat was the first person I ever met when I got my first PBGV,
Maggie. One of our friends, Gilbert Kahn, a breeder of Shih
Tzu and Japanese Chin, met us at the Miami dog show. This
was back in 1993 and we were total newbies to the sport of
dogs. Gilbert wanted his friend, Pat, to go over Maggie and
tell us if we should show her. He was trying to get us into
the sport. Pat loved Maggie and told us she had just judged
the PBGV national. She also recommended our first dog
handler who I took a class from. Pat felt Maggie was an 
excellent representative of our breed and thrilled that we
had imported her from Gunnar and Holger. She basically
judged Maggie, giving her a lengthy exam and having us
move her out. Maggie was about eight months old at the
time we took her to the show. Pat wanted us get her out
asap ... thought she was a special girl and could go far.

Rest in peace, Pat ... you truly loved this breed and your

interest never wavered.

Patricia Ann Gellerman

February 12, 1924 - April 26, 2012

While PBGVCA recording secretary, I got to know Pat Gellerman
through the judge nomination and election process for the 2006
national/regional specialty held in Sacramento. When contacting
the judges nominated by the membership to determine their
availability and willingness to judge, Pat was thrilled and 
honored to be placed on the ballot. When elected as Western
Specialty judge, she was so very appreciative and gracious in her
acceptance. Over the following months, we conversed a number
of times and she was just a pleasure to interact with.

Pat was the ultimate lady, in the ring and out. Dogs were her
life. She lived with them, wrote about them and judged
them. She also enjoyed tennis and more recently, golf. Her
original breed was the basset hound; however she attended
the inaugural meeting of the PBGVCA in Philadelphia in
1984. A founding member, she was very loyal to the PBGV
breed doing workshops, mentoring and attending nationals
every year since the beginning.

Pat Gellerman was a founding

was honored in 2010 along
with the other founding 
members at PBGVCA’s 25th 
Anniversary. As Jack said she
was always gracious and willing
to help me as much as she
could when I contacted her
about the history of our breed. The PBGV breed has lost one who
truly loved the breed and whose interest and backing never left, 
I am sure if she was able her membership was paid this year as it
had been for the last 26 years.
