Winter 2015

Saber Tails

live on the eastern end of Long Island and have
never seen another PB there. Not being involved
in showing or hunts, I have rarely seen another.

I have been to France three times and have never seen
one there. My husband teases me that if I wanted a
French dog, I should have bought a Poodle or French
Bulldog as they are everywhere. So when Debra Mills
posted about a French trip with a day spent with PBs, I
was in. My friend Patty Lauth was anxious to go also.

We met Debra in Paris in the Hotel Relais Du Louvre,

two blocks from the Louvre. I knew Debra was fluent in
French, but did not realize she was a teacher/professor of
French and a Francophile. We would spend three nights in
this magnificent old-world hotel. That night we cruised the
Seine while enjoying a taste-of-Paris dinner.

The next morning we skipped the lines for a tour of the

Louvre. We discovered that Debra had
taught art history and architecture. She
was more interesting than the guide and
much easier to understand as we viewed
masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa,
Winged Victory and, to our delight, a
mummy. That afternoon we went on a
city tour.

Day three. While waiting for the Orsay Museum to open,

we saw our first PB. A woman was walking it at very quick
clip, but when I reached the corner she had turned, they
were gone. So, back to the museum. We had a wonderful
tour guide for the three of us, and the interaction between

Debra and the guide was beyond
interesting. Patty is a fan of the
Impressionistic period and was
spellbound to see some of the
originals she had loved for many
years. Certainly by now I realized
I was traveling with two very
dedicated artists, as Patty is a
watercolorist and Debra is multi-
media. Between the Orsay Museum
and a visit to Claude Monet’s home
and gardens, Giverny, we stopped at
a three-floor tiny art store, Sennelier.
They had custom-mixed paints for
the great artists Monet, Degas,
Renoir, Manet and others. Even
I thought it was very cool.

It was now time to travel to

Dijon and closer to our day with the
PBs. We arrived in Dijon later then

(and see some PBGVs ...)
