Alliancehas240organizationsparticipating.Acurrent
issuebeingdiscussedisinsurancecoverage.TheAKCMarket
Placesitewasdiscussedwiththegoalofpromotingparent
clubinformationandactivitiesviathatsite.Therealso
needstobealinkfromtheAKCsitetoeachparentclubsite.
ParentClubHealthStatementshavebeensumittedby
98parentclubs.TheAKCwantstohavepop-upsforeach
breedtoinformthepublicabouthealthissuesandtesting
recommendationsforthatbreed.
MikeDunnpresentedtheBredwithH.E.A.R.TProgram.
Ofthelittersin2014,18percentcamefromBreedersof
MeritorBOMeligible,13percentwerecommercial(USDA)
orbreederswhohadmorethansevenlittersperyearand
werenotaBOM.Thebalanceof69percentwereconsidered
“other”or“casual”breeders.TheBredwithH.E.A.R.T.Program
targetsthesecasualbreeders.ThisprogramaddressesHealth,
Education,Accountability,ResponsibilityandTradition.The
programrequirescontinuingeducation,healthtestingas
recommendedbythatbreed’sparentclub,andinspection
ofpaperworkaspartoftheCare&ConditioningPolicy
includingarequiredDisasterPlan.400breedershaveenrolled
inthepastfiveweekspriortotheSeptembermeeting.Of
theseenrollees,57percentwere“casual”breeders,10percent
werecommercialbreedeers,and33percentwereBOMor
BOMeligible.91inspectionhavebeendoneand94breeders
havetakentheAKC’stestandhavereceivedacertificate.
TheAKC’sPetDisasterTrailerprogramhasdelivered30
trailers,ninearealmostreadytodeliver,and21groupsare
workingonfundingforatrailer.TheAKCisdoingan
outreachtohoundandsportingparentclubstoreview
andpossibleredotheirbrochureswithmoreinclusionof
companioneventsinthosebrochures.
TheCertificateofMeritProgramwasdiscussedextensively
withthreeconcernsidentified:thetitleisalreadyusedin
othervenues,dogsarenotrequiredtodefeatoneoftheir
ownbreedtogainapoint,andthereisapreferencethatthis
titlenotbeasuffix.TheParentClubsCommitteevoted
unanamiouslytosenditbacktotheBoardofDirectorsfor
additionalwork.Theportionofthisamendmentthatwould
haveawardedonechampionpointforthefirstCMwas
retractedbytheBoard,andwillnotbepartoftheamendment
votedontomorrow.
All-BreedClubCommittee.MarkDunnpresentedtheBred
withH.E.A.R.T.Programagain.Theterritoryproposalisstill
beingdiscussedwithlittleresolutionofnumerousconcerns.
DelegatesMeeting:9-12-15.Mr.DennisSprung,AKC
PresidentandCEO,calledthemeetingtoorderandintroduced
thepeopleseatedatthedais.TheDelegateswereinvitedto
submittheirballotsfortheDelegatesStandingCommittees.
Mr.JimCrowley,ExecutiveSecretary,readthenamesofthe
11newdelegatesseatedsincetheJunemeeting.
President’sReport.Mr.Sprungpresentedaverymoving
memoryofthetragedyof9-11-01andatributetotheheroic
men,womenanddogswhoworkedtosavelives.Of
thedelegateswhowereatthedelegatesmeetingin
Newarkonthattragicday,101continuetoserve
asdelegates.Withamovingslideshow,Mr.
SprungrecountedtheactivitiesoftheAKCandthe
dogpeoplewhosecuredthemedicaldiagnostic
equipmentnecessarytotreattheservicedogs.The
DOGNYprojectraised$3.5millionforSearchandRescue
dogs.FedExtransported111rawsculpturesfromthe
foundrytovariousartists’studiosthroughoutthecity,and
thenindividuallypackaged,pickedupandbroughtthem
toanothercompanyforcementbasestobeapplied.FedEx
providedtensofthousandsofdollarstothiseffort.More
than300teamsofdogscametoNewYork,andtheir
veterinarycarewasbilledtotheowners.Whileitwasa
well-guardedsecretforawhile,TonySosnoffstepped
forwardtopayforthecareofeverysingledog.Slidesofthe
DOGNYdogswereshownwithastandingovationforthe
herosof9-11andfortheaccomplishmentsoftheAKC.
CFO’sReport.Mr.JoeBaffutoreportedthatlitter
registrationsaredown.3percentthrough8-31-15compared
tothesameperiod2014.Dogregistrationsareup1.2
percent.Revenuesincreased4.8percentovertheperiod
8-31-14.Expenseswereminimallyupby.7percent.Overall
operatingincomehasincreased39percentcomparedto
thesameperiod2014.Totalassetshaveincreasedby$4.3
millionsincethisperiodin2014.Totalunrestrictednet
assesstsarevaluedat$117.6mil,whichisa$5.4mil
increaseoverthisperiodlastyear.
Amendments.ChairmanoftheParentClubsCommittee
PatLaurensreportedthatalthoughthereismerittothe
CertificateofMeritprogram,thereareproblemswithitas
currentlyproposed:thename,adogdoesn’thavetodefeat
anotherofitsownbreedtogainapoint,andthetitleis
proposedtobeasuffix.Giventheunanimousvoteofthe
ParentClubsCommittee,Patmovedthattheproposalbe
tabled.WithinputfromtheAKC’sparlimintarian,Mr.
SprungsuggestedtoPatthatshewantedtosay“referredto
theboard.”Themotionwascorrected,secondedandap-
provedbyasignificantvoicevote.
Mr.Crowleyreadfiveamendmentstobevotedonin
December.Thefirsteliminatestermlimitsfortheboardof
directors.Thenextthreeallowclubstoutilizeelectronic
documentsforpremiumlists,forjudgingprograms,andto
publishtheircatalogues.Thefifthwouldrecognizemutiple
levelsofgrandchampionshiptitles.
AdditionalBusiness.Mr.Crowleyreadthenamesof
sixdelegateswhohaveserved25years.Thesesixjoin99
delegatespreviouslyrecognized.Mr.Crowleythen
recognizedtheLadies’DogClub,whichiscelebrating100
yearsofmembershipintheAKC.
MaryLouOlszewski,AmericanBloodhoundClub,reported
onthesubstantialrepairstoAKC’swebsite.Itisestimated
thatallrepairsofknownproblemswillbecorrected/
improvedbyDecember.Giventhatwebsitesaredynamic,
therewillalwaysbeissues,buttheITdepartmentwill
addressthemwhentheyarecalledtotheirattention.
SeveraldelegatesrosetodiscussthevalueoftheJunior’s
programwithattentiontoentryfeesandonbeingkindand
supportivetotheseyoungcompetitors.
