TRIATHLETE AND BEGINNER TRIATHLETE COMPETITION 

March 28th – April 4th, 2017

The Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen Club of America understands that our National Specialties are about more than just 

conformation. So in an effort to show the natural abilities and versatility of our breed, the PBGVCA will be offering a 

Triathlete Award again this year.  The Triathlon will take place at this year’s 2017 Eastern Regional and National Specialty 

held in Charlotte, North Carolina, March 28th to April 4th, 2017. 

There will be two levels of Triathlete Awards available, the Beginner Triathlete Award and the Triathlete Award.  To qualify 

for the Beginner Triathlete Award, your PBGV must enter three different companion or performance disciplines (agility, 

hunt, obedience, rally) and qualify in at least two of them.  For the Triathlete Award, your PBGV needs to qualify in three 

different companion or performance disciplines.  Qualifying scores can be earned during Regional or National events. 

PBGVCA is hoping this award will help to encourage more owners of this wonderful versatile breed to enjoy working 

and training their PBGVs.

 

All participants will receive a commemorative token for entering the Triathlon.  Each PBGV achieving the Beginner Tri-

athlete Award or the Triathlete Award will also receive an additional prize and recognition. 

DISCIPLINES AND CLASSES THAT COUNT TOWARD THE TRIATHLON

• Agility – Standard or Jumpers in Novice, Open, Excellent, or Masters along with T2B all count towards the Triath-

lete Award. Regular or Preferred height.

• Hunt – The Hunting Instinct Test, will count towards the Beginner Triathlete and the regular hunt test will count 

towards the Triathlete Award. 

• Obedience – Beginner Novice counts toward the Beginner Triathlete Award. Novice, Open, Utility, Preferred 

Novice and Open, Graduate Novice, and Veterans (age 7 or older and must score 170 or higher) count towards 

the Triathlete Award

• Rally – Novice, Advanced, Excellent all count towards the Triathlete Award.  

TRIATHLON RULES 

• All PBGVs must enter at least 3 different events.

• For the Beginner Triathlete your PBGV must qualify in at least two different events. For the Triathlete Award your 

dog must qualify in at least 3 different events. 

• The Hunting Instinct Test and Beginner Novice Obedience class only count towards the Beginner Triathlete 

Award.

• If your dog only Q’s in two different events (must enter three) no matter the level you’re qualifying scores came 

from your award will be Beginner Triathlete

• Only qualifying scores from the 2017 PBGVCA Regional and National events will count towards the Triathlon 

Awards.

• If one of your 3 Q’s is from the Hunting Instinct test or Beginner Novice obedience class your award will be Be-

ginner Triathlete

• In Agility, Obedience, and Rally you must compete in a class that your dog is eligible for under AKC rules.

• Neutered and spayed PBGVs are eligible to compete

• ILP/PAL PBGVs are eligible to compete

• 

No additional cost to compete for the Triathlete Awards

You must declare you are competing for a Triathlete award and list the classes you will be competing in by the closing 

date of March 1st, 2017.  A Triathlon form will be provided in the premium list and online at www.pbgv.org   Click the
