Foundation—Hypothyroidism

University of Georgia
Recombinant Thyrotropin (TSH):
Standard for the Next Generation of Canine TSH Immunoassays with Improved Sensitivity

The major purpose of this project is to develop a more reliable method of screening for hypothyroidism, the most common health problem for PBGV's as identified in our 2000 PBGV Health Survey. The Canine Health Foundation has invited a number of Breed Clubs to participate in this research project being proposed by Duncan Ferguson, VMP, PhD, University of Georgia. For the project to be undertaken, a sufficient number of Breed Clubs most join with CHF in providing funding. Based on the recommendation of the PBGVCA Health/Genetics Committee, the PBGVCA Board voted to approve participation in this research project, and submitted a request the Health and Rescue Foundation of PBGVCA to provide funding. The Foundation has agreed to provide funding for this project. As of mid 2003, this project has not garnered the necessary finances, but is still working on it. CHF is requesting $1,300/year per Parent Club for this 2-year project.
